Business and Education Partnerships in Hawaii

  • Hawaii Association of Mathematics and Sciences
The Hawaii affiliate of the National Association of State Science and Mathematics Coalitions (NASSMC), HAMS hosts meetings of professional organizations in Hawaii and the Pacific area countries to work on joint projects, participate in discussions regarding mathematics and science education needs and plan strategies for meeting those needs. Because HAMS has members from the State's Department of Education and the business community on the steering committee, the goals and activities of HAMS complement and are well articulated with those of the state and employers.

  • Hawaii Business Roundtable
The Hawaii Business Roundtable, a nonprofit state coalition, is comprised of over 50 executives from Hawaii representing over 67,000 employees. In 2004, the Roundtable's Education Task Force wrote a position paper on public education reform, naming the issue the organization's top priority. In 2005, the Task Force issued a follow-up position paper. Both papers offer specific recommendations on how education policy and reform should be implemented, from a management perspective. The Roundtable manages Hawaii's Just for the Kids program.
